When most people think about core strength, they picture toned abs. But at KINETIKA, we know true core support starts much deeper, at the very base of your body, in a powerful group of muscles called the pelvic floor.
What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that form a kind of hammock inside your pelvis. These muscles support your bladder, uterus, rectum helping them function properly.
Why are pelvic floor muscles important?
Even though these muscles are hidden, they’re constantly active, helping you move, breathe, and stay supported. They have five major jobs:
- Support your organs – They literally hold things in place.
- Bladder and bowel control – Preventing leaks and helping with elimination
- Enhance sexual function – Involved in sensation, arousal, and orgasm.
- Provide stability – They’re part of your deep core system that stabilizes the spine and pelvis.
- Coordinate with your breath – Especially your diaphragm, supporting intra-abdominal pressure.
Signs Your Pelvic Floor May Need Help
Pelvic floor dysfunction can show up in different ways, including:
- Leaking when you laugh, sneeze, cough, or jump
- Sudden urges to pee — sometimes with leakage
- Feeling like you can’t fully empty your bladder or bowels
- A heavy, dragging sensation in the pelvis
- Pain during sex
- Constipation
- Pelvic or lower back pain
These symptoms are common, but they’re not normal. And most importantly they’re treatable.
When to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist?
If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms above, or simply seeking prevention. The truth is, you don’t have to wait for symptoms to get worse or live with them for years thinking they’re just part of being a woman. Many of our patients believed exactly that until they experienced firsthand how pelvic floor physiotherapy at KINETIKA improved their life.
It’s never too late or too early to take care of your body. You can benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy if you’re:
- Leaking urine when you laugh, cough, sneeze, or exercise
- Experiencing sudden, strong urges to urinate that are hard to control
- Feeling a heavy or dragging sensation in your pelvic area
