Video Head
Impulse Test (VHIT)
Fast, precise testing for your inner ear reflexes.
The VHIT evaluates how well your vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) is working — a reflex that keeps your eyes steady when your head moves. It helps us determine whether your inner ear canals are functioning properly and is especially useful when clients describe feeling dizzy or unfocused during quick movements.
What it’s
used for
- Blurred vision during head turns
- Difficulty focusing while walking or moving
- Sudden imbalance or unexplained unsteadiness
- Suspected vestibular hypofunction
Why it
works
Each time you move your head, your inner ear sends signals to help your eyes stay focused. If that reflex is not working well, it causes symptoms like dizziness or visual blurring. The vHIT detects even subtle dysfunctions by analysing how your eyes respond to quick, unpredictable head movements.
What to
expect
You will be seated on a chair approximately one meter away from a wall.
There will be three visual targets placed on the wall, and your physiotherapist will guide you on which target to focus on. While you keep your eyes fixed on the indicated target, your physiotherapist will perform small, quick, and unpredictable head movements in different directions.
A camera positioned in front of you will record your eye movements during the test. The assessment is quick, non-invasive, and completely painless. It helps us evaluate how well your vestibular system responds to rapid head movements.
Why clients
appreciate it
This test provides fast, clear answers. Many people struggle with symptoms that seem vague or hard to explain. The VHIT gives measurable insight into your vestibular function and is a valuable piece of the puzzle in your recovery journey.
