Chiropractic Care for Back Pain, Neck Pain & Joint Stiffness

Chiropractic care at KINETIKA takes an assessment-led approach to back pain, neck pain, joint stiffness and other musculoskeletal concerns. Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation or manipulation may be used where clinically appropriate, alongside movement, exercise and rehabilitation.

Our Chiropractor & Physiotherapist, Ali Deniz Baykara, brings both disciplines together within one treatment plan, tailoring care to your symptoms, goals and individual needs.

What chiropractic care involves

Chiropractic focuses on the spine, the joints and how they move. A chiropractor assesses your back, neck, pelvis and other joints, along with the muscles and nerves around them, and uses hands-on techniques to help restore movement where it has become stiff or painful.

The technique most people associate with chiropractic is joint manipulation. This is a quick, small, controlled movement applied to a specific joint, sometimes accompanied by a "click" or "pop". That sound is gas being released within the joint and is not a sign that anything has been "put back in place". Manipulation may help reduce pain and muscle guarding and can make it easier to move a stiff area in the short term.

Manipulation is only one tool. Depending on what your assessment shows, your session may also include gentler joint mobilisation, soft-tissue work, Mulligan techniques, dry needling, taping, and specific exercises. Not every patient needs manipulation, and you can always ask for a gentler approach.

Chiropractic inside a physiotherapy clinic

Hands-on treatment can help manage symptoms and improve movement, but at KINETIKA it is not used in isolation. We also consider your strength, mobility, activity levels, training demands and everyday routines when building your treatment plan.

At KINETIKA, chiropractic sits within the same integrated approach we use across the clinic:

  • Assessment first. We look at the whole picture before choosing a technique, and we use manipulation only when it is clinically appropriate.
  • Hands-on care. Manipulation or mobilisation may help create a window where moving feels easier.
  • Exercise rehabilitation. We use that window to build strength and control, so the gains are more likely to hold.
  • A plan you can carry on at home. You leave with exercises and advice that fit your day, so you are not dependent on hands-on treatment.

Because Ali is both a chiropractor and a physiotherapist, and works alongside our physiotherapy team, you do not have to choose between "getting adjusted" and "doing rehab". Both can happen in the same plan, with the same clinician.

Your first chiropractic visit

Your first appointment is an assessment and, where appropriate, treatment. Here is what it usually involves:

  1. A conversation. About your symptoms, general health, medication, previous injuries or surgery, and what you want to get back to doing.
  2. Screening for safety. We ask specific questions to check whether manipulation is suitable for you. If anything suggests your symptoms need medical investigation, we will tell you and help you arrange it.
  3. A physical assessment. This may include how you move, joint movement, strength, reflexes and sensation.
  4. An explanation. In plain language, what may be contributing to your symptoms and what we suggest.
  5. Treatment, if appropriate. We explain any technique before we use it and ask for your consent. You can say no to any technique at any point.
  6. Your plan. We explain the recommended next steps, which may include exercises, treatment options and an expected review plan based on your individual presentation.

Wear comfortable clothing, and bring any scan reports or doctor's letters.

Safety, and when chiropractic may not be suitable

Chiropractic treatment, including joint manipulation, is generally well tolerated when appropriately selected following a clinical assessment. Temporary soreness, stiffness or fatigue can occur after treatment. Your clinician will screen for factors that may make manipulation inappropriate and discuss the benefits, risks and alternatives before treatment.

Manipulation, or manipulation of a particular area, may not be suitable if you have:

  • Suspected fracture, or recent significant trauma such as a car accident or fall
  • Osteoporosis or other conditions that weaken the bones
  • Inflammatory joint conditions in an active phase, such as some forms of arthritis
  • Certain blood vessel conditions, or symptoms such as sudden severe headache, dizziness, double vision or difficulty speaking
  • Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication (tell us if you take any)
  • Signs of nerve compression that is getting worse, such as increasing weakness or numbness
  • Changes in bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin or saddle area (this needs urgent medical attention)
  • A current or past history of cancer
  • Unexplained weight loss, fever or night pain that does not ease with rest
  • Recent spinal surgery or spinal implants in the area to be treated
  • Pregnancy, where some techniques and positions need to be adapted

This list is general, not complete. Having one of these does not always rule out care. We may choose gentler techniques, focus on exercise, or suggest a medical review first. If unsure, mention it when you book.

Chiropractic for the Dubai Hills community

Our clinic is on Floor 4 of Park Heights Square 1, on Al Khail Road, which makes it an easy stop for people who live and work around Dubai Hills. Many of the people we see spend long days at a desk in nearby offices and notice their neck, upper back or lower back tightening by the end of the week. Others are regulars at padel courts and gyms in the area and come in with a stiff back after a heavy session, a sore shoulder from overhead shots, or hip pain that keeps coming back.

We also see many parents with back pain from lifting and carrying young children, or who are finally making time for a problem put off for months. And for anyone commuting on Al Khail Road, a stiff neck and lower back from long hours in the car is a familiar story. Whatever brings you in, we aim to fit care around your working day and help you get back to what you want to be doing.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between chiropractic and physiotherapy?

There is a lot of overlap. Both assess and treat problems with the joints, muscles and nerves. Chiropractic tends to focus more on the spine and on joint manipulation, while physiotherapy tends to focus more on exercise and rehabilitation. At KINETIKA the two are combined, and Ali is qualified in both.

Is chiropractic manipulation painful?

Most people find it comfortable. You may feel a brief pressure and hear a click. Some people feel mild soreness for a day or two afterwards. We explain each technique first and adjust it to what you are comfortable with.

Do I have to have my back or neck "cracked"?

No. Manipulation is one option among many. If you prefer not to have it, or if it is not suitable for you, we can use gentler mobilisation, soft-tissue techniques and exercise instead.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what is going on, how long you have had it, and your goals. After your first assessment we will give you an honest idea of what to expect and review your progress as we go. We aim to help you manage on your own, not to keep you coming back.

Can chiropractic help with headaches?

Some headaches can be linked to stiffness or tension in the neck. After an assessment, treatment of the neck and upper back may help some people with this type of headache. New, sudden or severe headaches should be checked by a doctor first.

Can chiropractic help with sciatica?

Sciatica-type pain has several possible causes. We assess what may be contributing and choose techniques to match, which may or may not include manipulation. Worsening weakness, numbness or any change in bladder or bowel control needs urgent medical attention.

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Some techniques can be adapted during pregnancy, and some are best avoided. Tell us you are pregnant when you book so we can plan a suitable approach with you.

Will I be given exercises?

Yes. Exercise is a core part of care at KINETIKA. Most people leave their first appointment with a small number of exercises to start at home, which we progress over time.

Should I bring my scans?

Yes, if you have them. If we think imaging or a medical review would be useful, we will explain why.

Does insurance cover chiropractic?

KINETIKA operates on a pay-and-claim basis. We can provide the relevant documentation for reimbursement; coverage depends on your individual insurance policy and should be confirmed directly with your insurer.

What language are sessions in?

Ali sees patients in English and Turkish.
